Q: What is PLA?
Most biodegradable bags are made from PLA (polyactic acid) plastic. PLA is a biodplastic material made from renewable resources such as corn and sugar. It is bsustainable product and is compostable in industrial composting facilities. It is a great material to use in packaging as it is food safe and relatively inexpensive.
Q: Is PLA environmentally friendly?
Polyactide is referred to as a bioplastic because of its environmentally friendly nature. Polyactide (PLA) is a renewable thermoplastic and a poylymer. It is processed from the starch of plants such as corn, sugar cane and sugar beet, making it environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Q: When will be the bags begin to biodegrade? Temperature and so on?
1. It will take 180 days that PLA and other biodegradable materials to biodegrade under industrial composting conditions of humidity 65%, temperature 65 degrees Celsius,90% of the organic part is degraded into water and carbon dioxide.
2. It will take 360 days to biodegrade into water and carbon dioxide in household compost of household and kitchen waste.
3. In the natural environment, the degradation of materials begins to degenerate in one year, physical properties completely lost in 3-5 years or even longer, then slowly degraded into water and carbon dioxide, the rate of degradation depends on local environmental conditions, degradation will become faster in high temperature and high humidity.
